What’s at its strongest, Zimbabwe will play the Netherlands in three One-Day Internationals to close out their schedule for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League and kick off their preparations for Cricket World Cup Qualifying.

Key players Sikandar Raza, Ryan Burl, Blessing Muzarabani, Sean Williams, and Tendai Chatara, who all missed the previous Test series against the West Indies due to injury, have returned to the Zimbabwe lineup.

Even though all-rounder Bas de Leede is absent due to a heel injury, the Netherlands has selected a strong lineup, including 19-year-old Aryan Dutt.

Both teams will compete in an ODI series to prepare for the Cricket World Cup Qualifying, which will also take place in Zimbabwe, and select the final two teams who will advance to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Currently, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands are hopelessly mired in last place in the Super League rankings and thus have no chance of cutting one of the eight direct qualification positions available for the Cricket World Cup later this year.

Playing two One-Day Internationals in South Africa the week after their tour of Zimbabwe will provide the Dutch with invaluable experience in the format and comparable conditions. The two-game set will bring the number of Super League games in the Netherlands to 24.

Only two previous one-day internationals have been played between the two sides, both of which the Netherlands won after chasing down a target of over 200 runs.

During their lone another One-Day International matchup, Zimbabwe prevailed thanks to Andy Fowler’s best score of 71. This victory occurred at the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

Due to Ryan Cook’s new position as fielding coach for IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Netherlands will be without a head coach for their upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Netherlands has appointed Ryan van Niekerk as interim coach.
